TOP 5 ICC PLAYER RANKINGS FOR ODI BATSMEN: 2021

In cricket,  individual performances matter the most, be it in any of the formats. Cricketers put their heart and soul into performances to make them memorable. These performances not only make a normal player, a star player but also provides them with an amicable ranking on the ICC player rankings list. 

 

The ICC player rankings list is issued for both the batting and bowling line of action. The list is made for tests, t20s, and ODIs, out of the three formats, rankings of one-day internationals matter the most because it shows if a player is meant for other high-end matches and championships. 


Since we are talking about the best batsman in one-day internationals, let’s look at the top five players in the ICC player rankings list : 

BABAR AZAM (PAKISTAN) 



Babar Azam was born on 15th October 1994 and is currently aged 26 years old, Babar Azam is a right-handed batsman, he has made almost 2100 runs in 33  test matches, with 5 centuries in hand. Followed by 3900 runs in 83 one-day matches. In the ODI series, he has scored almost 14 centuries. In low term matches too his performance is great. He has scored 2200 runs in 61 T20 matches with just a single century till now. 

In 2017 in an ODI against WEST INDIES, he was the second  Fastest player after Quinton De Kock to score five ODI tons. He was the leading run-scorer in the tri-series with BANGLADESH and SRI LANKA. Hence in ODIs, he has been ranked number 1 with 873 points and the best career rating of his performance is against England on 13th July 2021. In a mediocre team like Pakistan at present, Babar Azam is a slight ray of hope who can bat well and make enough runs for the team. There was a time when the age of Mahendra Singh dhoni was less, he was also ranked in the ICC players ranking list at the top position in one-day internationals. 


VIRAT KOHLI (INDIA) 



Virat Kohli was born on 5th November 1988. The 32-year-old is the captain of the Indian cricket team. Not only he is a great captain, but he is also a top-class right-handed batsman. 

His performance in ODI cricket is just fantastic. In 254 matches, he has scored 12169 runs, and around 43 centuries and 62 half-centuries. 


In the T20s, he has made more than 3100 runs in around 90 matches with a total of 28 half-centuries. Virat Kohli’s game in every match can be seen as an amalgamation of skills, technique, and a finely crafted methodology. 


Currently, the Indian captain is set at the second position in the ICC player ranking list for the ODI format. He has 844 rating points and his career’s best career was also against England on 12th July 2018. Virat’s batting style is widely appreciated, he is extremely talented and has the potential to break records of some legendary players in a one-day international format specifically. Let’s hope to see some more of the batting action from Kohli’s bat very soon in the test championship. 


ROHIT SHARMA (INDIA)



The date of birth of Rohit Sharma is 30th April 1987 and now is aged 34. He is a right-handed top-order batsman in the Indian cricket team. He is a skillful batsman and that’s why he is addressed as the ‘HITMAN’ in the cricket fraternity. 


Specifically, in the ODI series, he has made 9205 runs in 227 matches with almost 30 centuries and 43 half-centuries. in high-end matches like test cricket, he is popularly known for his best defense. if the bowling style is critical he is one of the finest defenders and attacks only if the movement is in favor and prefers to time himself accordingly. 


In the ICC player ranking list for ODI batsman, he is stationed at number three with 813 points and his career-best was against Sri Lanka in the year 2019 with a then rating of 885. Sharma is the most logical and sound player out of the entire squad who can time his batting well in long-time matches. in the first test against England on 4th August 2021 he led the team to a great start, now let’s see how far can he go with his similar batting approach.   


ROSS TAYLOR (NEW ZEALAND)



The date of birth of Ross Taylor is 8th march 1984 and is aged 37 years old, he is a right-handed, middle-order batsman in the team of Newzealand. 


In tests, Taylor has made more than 7500 runs with 19 centuries in 108 matches whereas in ODI cricket he has shown his excellent performance by making 8500 runs in 233 matches with 21 centuries and 51 half-centuries in hand. He can bat really well in death overs and is also considered the fastest run maker in times of need. 


He has a record of 5th person to make most runs in an innings. In the ICC ranking list for a batsman in ODI format, he is at the fourth position with 801 rate points with his career’s best against Bangladesh in 2019 with a then rating of 841 points. 



AARON FINCH ( AUSTRALIA)


Aaron Finch was born on November 17 and is aged 34. He is a right-handed top-order batsman and the captain of


the Australian team, he is an aggressive batsman the team and reacts well to any experimental ball produced before him by the bowlers. 


He has a better history of playing in ODI matches with 5232 runs in 132 matches with 17 centuries and 29 half-centuries. In the t20s, he has scored almost 2400 runs in 75 matches with 2 centuries and 15 half-centuries. 


In the ICC player ranking list as the ODI batsman, he is at the fifth position with 779 points with career’s best with 798 rates against England in June 2019. Finch holds the record of 8th most runs made by a captain in a series followed by the 7th person to make hundreds against a single team. He also holds a common record of making 5000 runs and 50 dismissals, all in the one-day internationals.
